During the 8.5 weeks while your loved one is at BMT, he/she will be authorized to use his/her cell phone or pay phones to make outgoing calls to family members. Trainees are encouraged to maintain their cell phone service while at BMT and to bring a calling card. Those arriving without phones will be provided opportunities to utilize pay phones as needed. Pay phones will be area code 210, with prefix 674,673,675,645. Not all calls from 210 will be Lackland, some will be telemarketers.
Trainees are encouraged to utilize their cell phone to notify a family member of their safe arrival at the San Antonio International Airport. Trainees will not have any specific squadron/dorm assignments at this time.
By Saturday of arrival week, trainees will be authorized to call and release their mailing address information posted on the safe arrival postcard (which will then be mailed to family member's address). They are not told who to call. It could be mom, dad, sibling, friend, anyone they choose.
Trainees will use cell phones only under direct supervision of a staff member.
Trainees are authorized access to their personal cell phones during the fourth week and at the end of the seventh week of training to firm up travel arrangements with family and guests. During the other weeks of training and based on their performance, they will have an opportunity to use their personal cell phones or pay phones to call family or friends. Additionally, trainees will be allowed to use their personal cell phones to update family and friends on any changes of training status.

Calls: Authorized calls are
during WOT 3 & WOT 6.
Business Calls: May occur at anytime. These calls are usually made from the MTI's office and under supervision. These calls are usually before lights out which is 9 PM Sun - Thur. and 10 PM on Sun. The train. The trainee will not be able to hold a 'conversation' other than to retreve the the required information. ALWAYS KEEP PAPER AND PEN HANDY.
Patio Time: It is also noted that the trainee/FLT may earn patio time (Base liberty) which can be used several ways. Some will stand in a very long line to use the pay phone (calling cards only) or go get something to eat, or for training/cleaning/study or writing home.
Cell phones will be used for OUT GOING voice conversations only. Receiving, sending, sharing, or viewing videos/pictures/text messages is strictly prohibited. Please do not send this type of information to your trainee. Violations WILL result in disciplinary actions. Disciplinary actions may include loss of phone time, loss of earned base liberty, loss of family time during graduation weekend, loss of town base or town liberty. The loss of liberty time during graduation weekend could be anything from a few hours to a lost of most of the day where you may only have two hours to visit and or of town liberty to base liberty.
Should they decide to use the pay phones the following prefixs will appear.

Prior to arriving at BMT, trainees must remove all photographs or videos which are considered lewd or pornographic. Our staff will conduct a "Cell Phone Policy Briefing" during the initial health, morale, and welfare inspection. Trainees will sign a cell phone briefing roster stating they have been informed of and understand all policies associated with the use of cell phones while at BMT.
Airmen will NOT have their cell phones during Airmen's Week. They will receive them when they are leaving for Tech School on Sunday night or Monday morning.
